We love traveling across Eastern North Carolina to meet our neighbors. Every community we visit has its own unique charm and character. Our recent trip to Hyde County was a reminder of why we love this region so much.
A unique part of our state
Hyde County, North Carolina, is known for its wildlife, hunting, and fishing. It is the second least populated county in the state. However, the small population size only means that the community bond is stronger. We were excited to make the trip out to see everyone.
Filling the gym at Mattamuskeet
The distance or population density did not stop the Wayne Hardee Book Bag Giveaway in August 2025. We stopped at the Mattamuskeet Middle School gymnasium and gave away more than 250 book bags.
The gym was buzzing with activity. It was a pleasure to provide these supplies to the students. We know that access to school supplies can be a challenge in rural areas, and we wanted to ensure these students started the year fully prepared.
A special exception
We always try to stick to our guidelines to be fair, but sometimes kindness comes first. While we normally do not provide backpacks to kindergarten and first graders, we made an exception for one special young student. Seeing the joy that a simple backpack can bring is what this tour is all about. It is about helping individuals and making their day a little brighter.

It was a very fulfilling day. We can not wait to come back and support the students of Hyde County again. We want to thank the staff at Mattamuskeet Middle School for opening their doors to us and helping organize such a smooth event.
